Positions to Elect
The 2026 General Municipal Election will be held on November 3, 2026. The City of Tulare has the following City Council seats up for election:
- City Councilmember for District 2 (4-year term ending December 2030)
- City Councilmember for District 4 (4-year term ending December 2030)

Nomination Papers
Nomination papers are issued by the Tulare County Registrar of Voters. There is no filing fee to run for City Council.
To qualify for the ballot, candidates must collect and submit at least 20 verified signatures from registered voters who live in the candidate’s City Council district. Signatures may be gathered between July 13 and August 7, 2026 (or until August 12, 2026 if an extension applies).
A voter may sign only one nomination paper for the same office. If a voter signs more than one, only the signature on the first nomination paper filed will be counted.
You must schedule an appointment ahead of time to file your nomination papers. The appointment scheduler will be available on the County's website.

City of Tulare Services (Sales Tax) Measure
Tulare residents will have the opportunity to vote on the City of Tulare Services Measure, a proposed 1-cent increase to sales tax. To help finance essential City services and community initiatives, the City Council voted on June 2 to place the measure on the upcoming November ballot.
