The City Clerk's Office is responsible for conducting municipal elections within the City of Tulare. This information is provided to assist voters, potential candidates, and any individuals or organizations involved in City elections.

Regular general elections take place in even-numbered years and occur at the same time as the State of California’s general election. Each City Councilmember serves a four-year term.

After each election, which occurs every two years, the City Council selects one member to serve as Mayor and another to serve as Vice Mayor.

The City of Tulare works with the Tulare County Registrar of Voters to run its elections. The Registrar of Voters handles tasks such as issuing and accepting nomination papers, managing petitions, translating election materials as required by the Voting Rights Act, printing and mailing voter information, and finding and staffing polling places. The Registrar is also responsible for all Election Day operations, including counting votes, and for post‑election work like reviewing the results and officially certifying the election.

The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for managing Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) filings, including statements of economic interest and campaign finance disclosure reports.
