The City of Tulare acquired the vacant former courthouse building adjacent to City Hall with the intent to renovate it into a Business Accelerator featuring an approximately 2,000-square-foot Maker’s Space. Located in the heart of Downtown Tulare, the facility will support 12–24 start-up businesses across a range of industries, including transportation and logistics, technology, data processing, research and development, and vocational trades such as woodworking. To promote inclusive economic growth, up to 25 percent of tenant space is proposed to be reserved for immigrant-owned businesses, reflecting the City’s diverse population and significant seasonal workforce.
Recognizing the importance of downtown revitalization and long-term economic development, the City Council initiated plans to establish a business incubator and makerspace in partnership with the Tulare Chamber of Commerce. While business incubators are a proven economic development strategy nationwide, this initiative represents a new opportunity for Tulare.
The Tulare Business Innovation Zone (TBIZ) will serve as a launchpad for local entrepreneurs by providing workspace, training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Supporting 12–24 start-ups from diverse industries and backgrounds—including minority-, women-, and immigrant-owned businesses—TBIZ will partner with organizations such as Valley Community SBDC, SCORE, the Tulare EDC, WIB, and local business leaders to help small businesses grow and succeed.
