CITY OF TULARE –Illegal and Dangerous Fireworks
On December 21, 2021 the Tulare City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance increasing the fines for the possession or use of illegal and dangerous fireworks to $2,000 for a first offense. Fines also increase by $1,000 for all future offenses. In addition, a fine of $10,000 will be assessed to anyone found selling illegal fireworks. Fire Department staff and the City Council agree that the use of illegal fireworks has increased over the last several years, and in order to curtail this activity, this ordinance was enacted.
Any time that illegal fireworks are discharged, they pose a potential risk of fire and a significant injury risk. In addition to these hazards, the loud noises, and flashing lights scare pets and the explosions can be harmful to citizens that suffer from post-traumatic stress.
Only fireworks that have the CA State seal indicating that they are “Safe and Sane” are allowed to be discharged within the City.
The Tulare Fire Department and Tulare Police Department will be actively patrolling for illegal fireworks during this New Year’s holiday. The City of Tulare wants all citizens to be courteous to the neighbors and to celebrate the holiday responsibly including not using illegal and dangerous fireworks.
Any person seeking additional information can contact the Tulare Fire Department at (559) 684-4360.
